Aspartame – Food To Die For
by Jayne Vosper
In this day and age, when people are being urged to eat more healthily and to to look after themselves more, why aren’t we being told about the dangers in our food? For example E951 or Aspartame is added to food products as a substitute for sugar. It is an ingredient used in approximately 6,000 consumer foods and drinks worldwide. It has been reported that Aspartame is a POISON. Aspartame poisoning symptoms include memory loss, migraines, insomnia, palpitations, convulsions, vision problems, dizziness, numbness or tingling of limbs, weight gain and diarrhoea. It is one of the most dangerous substances ever to be foisted upon an unsuspecting public.
Aspartame was discovered in 1965 by James M. Schlatter who had synthesised the substance while he was searching for new drugs to be used in ulcer therapy. He was working for G. D. Searle and Company, which was purchased by Monsanto in 1985. The NutraSweet company is a subsidiary of Monsanto. Monsanto know how dangerous Aspartame is but do nothing about it. It was once allegedly listed by the Pentagon in America, as a Biological Warfare Agent. It is no help whatsoever in loosing weight. It makes you crave sugar and carbohydrates.
Aspartame is believed to worsen diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Some people have been diagnosed wrongly with M.S. because of Aspartame. It is also implicated in Systemic Lupus, Epilepsy, Allergies, Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, Lymphoma and Asthma.
The Phenylalanine in Aspartame depletes Serotonin, leading to panic attacks, manic depression, rage and violence. There are over 92 different symptoms associated with Aspartame consumption. It is sold under the brand names NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, Canderel etc. If a product is labelled as “No added sugar” or “Sugar free” then it may well have been artificially sweetened, so always check the label carefully.
Many things contain Aspartame. The majority of lemonades contain Aspartame, even non-diet ones. Some medications contain Aspartame. Many preserves such as jams and marmalades are affected too. Cakes, chewing gum, ice cream, toothpaste, mouthwashes and biscuits also contain Aspartame.
Aspartame breaks down into methanol (wood alcohol), which quickly converts to formaldehyde, which causes damage to the neurological and immune systems. Small amounts of Aspartame can lead to the build up of formaldehyde (bound to protein) in the liver, kidneys, brain and soft tissues. Tests on rats show that they developed unusually high numbers of brain tumours when exposed to Aspartame.
Methanol (wood alcohol) is a poison associated with the deaths of alcoholics. When Aspartame meets the enzyme Chymotrypsin, methanol is released in the small intestine. When Aspartame is heated to 30 degrees C and above, this absorption is increased and the body breaks down Methanol into formic acid (found in the sting of ants), and formaldehyde. In the early 1990s, during Dessert Storm, U.S. troops were sent thousands of cans of diet soda. Having no fridges, the cans were stored at temperatures exceeding 40 degrees C and the troops started showing signs of illnesses similar to formaldehyde poisoning. Gulf War Syndrome symptoms are identical to Aspartame poisoning. With Diabetics, Aspartame keeps the blood sugar level out of control, causing many sufferers to go into comas. Unfortunately, many have died. Aspartame ruins female sexual response and induces male sexual dysfunction. It disrupts foetal development by aborting it or inducing defects. Aspartame may well have damaged the DNA of the baby.
Aspartame has long been suspected of contributing to hyperactivity and other behaviour problems in children. It causes headaches, uncontrollable behaviour, slurred speech, insomnia, generalised tonic-clonic seizures (also called grand mal seizures) and nausea. More children are suffering anxiety attacks, bipolar disorder, and are suicidal. It over-stimulates neurons in the brain causing brain damage. For 8 years, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) denied approval of the use of Aspartame, but unfortunately political muscle, in the shape of Ronald Reagan and Donald Rumsfeld, won. Aspartame was approved for use in the USA in 1981. It was approved for use in UK the following year.
In December 2005, a report in the Daily Mail read:
Leading scientists joined forces with MPs to urge the Government to ban all products containing Aspartame (Artificial Sweetener). Liberal Democrat MP Roger Williams said “The Government should withdraw Aspartame from supermarket shelves”
Research in Italy found a link between Leukaemia and Lymphoma in rats fed with Aspartame. Mr. Williams warned that Aspartame is potentially “far more dangerous than Sudan 1”.
The Italian researchers called for “an urgent examination into the safety of Aspartame”
Please spread the word about this deadly poison. Maybe eventually, companies will take notice and Aspartame will be banned worldwide. The next time you reach for a Diet Coke or a Diet Pepsi and say “I’m dying for a drink” .
