Michelle Nicholls has opened a practice called “Sunshine and Smiles” aimed at promoting well-being and holistic therapies.
Michelle has the following holistic therapy qualifications:
SNHS Dip. (Aromatherapy), SNHS Dip. (Colour Therapy), SNHS Dip. (Crystal Healing), SNHS Dip. (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), SNHS Dip. (Professional Relaxation Therapy), SNHS Dip. (Psychotherapy and Counselling) & SNHS H.I.Dip. (Holistic Therapies)
Since early childhood I’ve had a strong spiritual connection, and interest in holistic therapies, though I never dreamed it could be a career! I remember a regression I had 10 years ago, experiencing life as a ‘village wise woman’ in the Middle Ages. I always felt a strong resonance with this, but felt it was not achievable in the modern times. I was expected to follow a traditional career path, and be financially motivated to survive our consumerist society.
I started my career in childcare and education, completed a BND in Early Years, after which I spent 5 years working with children with Special Educational Needs.
It was during this time that I discovered The School of Natural Health Sciences. Working with children with complex needs, motivated me to find out more and investigate how aspects of ‘holistic therapy’ could be used in my practice, particularly using colour, crystals and breathing work, to relax and soothe children.
As my career progressed I moved on to managing community advice and guidance projects with young offenders, proving advice and guidance to adults in custody, and then supporting adults with learning disabilities and mental health problems. I have an NVQ in Advice and Guidance at Level 4, which gives me specialist knowledge and skills in this area, but given the needs of the complex groups I worked with, I gained invaluable additional skills by achieving SNHS diplomas in Psychotherapy & Counselling and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). These qualifications enabled me to convert techniques and skills into advice and guidance sessions.
All my previous jobs had required huge personal commitment of time and energy, often leaving me exhausted and with little quality time for myself or my family. I was terrified at the prospect of not having a career to rely on, but following the inspirational words of my beloved gran who said “find your grit, and live your life” I did just that. I found inner strength to embark on a project that makes me feel like I am living my life, and giving to others in a balanced and harmonious way.
Over the past 7 years of studying with The School of Natural Health Sciences, I have achieved several qualifications, including a Higher International Diploma in Holistic Therapies, and this meant I was able to set up a business based upon well-being and holistic therapies. And so Sunshine and Smiles was born.
Sunshine and Smiles is my very new business. My main aims are to promote awareness of holistic health and well-being, provide affordable holistic therapy treatments, as well as offering spiritual development groups, workshops and retreats. Our first retreat took place in August, and I had a Goddess workshop in August too. I am also working in collaboration with a local nursery to deliver well-being sessions to the children, as well as providing a holistic health course for a charity. I believe that this is the beginning of a fulfilling and exciting adventure, that The School of Natural Health Sciences has prepared me for. I am embracing my ‘village wise woman’ within, and being bold enough to take chances, compassionate enough to see the light within people, and combining my ancient inner wisdom and intuition with the wonders of 21st Century learning.
With gratitude and warm thanks to all at The School of Natural Health Sciences.
