Matthew Lamburn, tells everyone about studying as a Self Study student with our School.
Matthew is based in London, England.
He has the following holistic therapy qualifications:
SNHS Dip. (Aromatherapy), SNHS Dip. (Anatomy & Physiology), SNHS Dip (Colour Therapy), SNHS Dip. (Crystal Healing), SNHS Dip. (Professional Relaxation Therapy), SNHS Dip. (Reflexology) and SNHS Dip. (Stress Management)
For me as a student, I found the best way to manage my studies has been by setting aside specific times each week that I dedicated to the lessons and further studies into the subject at hand. Although the courses do not expire, I chose this way to top up my knowledge.
Motivating myself was easy! As knowing that what I am doing by studying was going to contribute to my working life, both currently and in the future, was motivation itself. I am working towards moving to being a full time holistic therapist, having a passion for physical and meta-physical healing and transformative practices. I found the ‘golden thread’ amongst my chosen areas of study to be a motivating factor too, as the more I learn and understand, the more I want to learn!
Distance learning suits me …… I have a busy full time job and the ability to study at home is really beneficial to me. The School has always been really supportive and it’s great knowing that there is help and advice at the end of an email or telephone if needed.
I chose the Self Study method – Again, for me individually, this is a really great way to study – I have studied informally for many years, so working under my own steam has never been an issue. I didn’t feel the need to have a distance learning Tutor to mark my work at the end of each lesson. I have a busy full time job and a full life outside of this, so the ability to study at my own pace and in my own time is something very valuable to me.
Interaction with the Self Study Team was really good – they were always quick to respond within the time limits and gave useful feedback after each submission of my answer papers – always friendly too 🙂
Case Studies – I found completing case studies for Aromatherapy and Reflexology a really useful part of my studies; it not only requires you to reflect on your own learning, but also provides a practical way for you to use the skills you’ve learnt and to find your ‘own style’ with it. I enjoyed the challenge of completing case studies and am pleased to say some of my original ‘guinea pigs’ have become long-term clients of mine.
As to the Quality of course lessons:
I thought the coursework was very well presented and the level of information and detail was above and beyond what I expected. I have been consistently impressed by the standard and, as mentioned, really resonated that there was a clear ‘golden thread’ throughout the different courses that linked them in strong and supportive ways to each other.
I would recommend the School to others and, in fact, have already done so! I’m looking forward to completing a few more courses with the School myself later this year.
Following my studies with the School of Natural Health Sciences, I have set up a small online business selling spiritual essential oils blends and am enjoying some success with this over the last 12 months. The shop can be found at www.etsy.com/uk/shop/SpiritSense
Later this year, I am setting up my holistic healing business using the skills learned and qualifications gained from studying with the School of Natural Health Sciences – watch this space!!”
