About Me

My name is Joanna Thorne, I have been training with the School of Natural Health Sciences for just over a year now.

Having previously gained a qualification in Nutritional Therapy through a different school, the first course I completed was Advanced Nutritional Therapy.  Following this, I then qualified in Kinesiology, Allergy Testing, Child Nutrition, Nutrition for Over 50s, Sport Nutrition, Mindfulness, Reflexology, Advanced Reflexology, Holistic Massage, Hot Stone Massage, Acupressure,  Exercise for Health and Wellness and the one I am most pleased with is my Diploma with Distinction in Anatomy and Physiology.

Why did I start training as a Holistic Therapist?

I have been interested in alternative medicine and exercise since my late teens.

More recently, my daughter, when she was seven years old, was diagnosed with coeliac disease.  The hospital were fantastic with the diagnosis but not so great at providing the information I needed to ensure that I could keep my daughter nutritionally healthy.

I had to do a lot of research myself to ensure that I was confident in creating balanced meals for her.  I then started getting friends and family asking me for advice.

I decided that I needed to extend this knowledge so that I could help more people.  That was how I started with the Nutritional Therapy, following this with Allergy Testing so that I could advise people on what they should or should not be eating.

My Business

I have now set up my own business, Joanna Thorne Wellbeing. Working from home part-time (I also work in school as a Teaching Assistant) using all of my qualifications.

Most of my clients come to me for Allergy Testing.  As well as providing the Allergy Test, I also discuss with my clients their Nutritional needs, what they need to avoid and how do go about it.  We talk about their weekly food intake and how they can adapt it to ensure they are getting a healthy balanced diet.

I always tell my clients that if they have any questions in the future to message me. I know what it is like to get home from an appointment and think “I should have asked…”

I had one lady come back for a follow up appointment where she said “You have literally saved my life”.  She felt that, had she not come to me, she would not have been able to continue. Her life has now been changed for the better; she has more energy and is enjoying eating.

I have also had comments during Reflexology treatments such as “I feel like you are in tune with me”.  I am also providing successful pain relief treatments through Acupressure. I strive to provide a warm, friendly, affordable service for everyone.

Seeing the happiness and relief I can bring to people inspires me to continue.  I hope that in the future I can extend my skills to provide more therapies so that I can work totally holistically and treat each person with a therapy tailored to their needs.

Holistic therapy is such a rewarding career.
