Like many practitioners I became interested in holistic health after an extended period of illness during which I was treated with complimentary and traditional medicine. I’ve always had an interest in complementary therapies, but it was during this time that I realised how incredibly beneficial they could be. I have practiced yoga and meditation for around 14 years and my first step on my new path was to train as a Meditation Teacher. Reiki sessions encouraged me to train to be a Reiki practitioner and then, just at exactly the right time, I found that The School of Natural Health Sciences (SNHS Ltd).
During my recovery I began to develop a vision of what I wanted to do – I wanted a centre where people could have access to a wide range of options for healing and personal development. After a lot of thought and considerable encouragement from my partner, I decided to put my many years experience as a business development consultant and coach into the development of Alternative Vitality. And then, out of the blue, my employer announced a round of voluntary redundancies and I decided that it was now or never.
That was over a year ago and I have never looked back. I run a treatment centre in the Highlands of Scotland where we offer Clinical Hypnotherapy, Coaching and Complementary Therapies. We also have a retail side to the business where we stock some of the best natural and organic health and beauty brands. I work closely with Brian Lamb, who is the longest established herbalist in the UK and his daughter Sophia who is the first, second generation herbalist. Brian is also based here in the very far north of Scotland and provides all our herbal remedies and a fantastic range of skincare.
The coming year will see us develop the centre to allow for retreats and an expansion of our services to offer Hypnobirthing programmes and yoga lessons. To fit with my vision, Alternative Vitality had to be available to everyone providing access to coaching, meditation resources, and our complete range of health and beauty products and herbal remedies. We also provide a hugely popular range of light therapy equipment. Recently we’ve expanded to include eco-friendly products for home and garden which can be accessed here: www.wikaniko.com/1002460
Without the SNHS, I would still be wondering ‘what if’. I was a bit unsure at first as to whether distance learning would be enough but the courses really have allowed me to develop and grow what has become a very successful business. As with any training, you get out what you put in. so give your all to the courses, really focus on your case studies and take full advantage of any practical training opportunities, You too could make the change from ‘dreaming the life’ to ‘living the dream’
