I would like to dedicate this to my wife and wonderful family and the School of Natural Health Sciences. Thank you for believing me and for always being there.

My name is Antony Martiniani Shinomiya I currently work in the Education sector as a Teacher Trainer in TESOL.

A couple of years ago I found myself and my family, so stressed out with life and all the hassle that goes with it. I was at the lowest point I had ever been. I suffered from sleeping difficulties, my sons both had allergies, atopic dermatitis to be exact. I was always feeling congested, tired, couldn’t eat right. I was a mess. My family was very concerned about my condition and I never wish to be there again. I ended up taking more than several days off sick after contracting a micro plasmatic form of pneumonia followed by a deep state of depression, all this and I was only forty! Life is supposed to begin at forty isn’t it? “Mine felt like it was about to end”.

To try and to get myself together and hopefully find some super inner strength to carry on fighting when I returned to work, I tried various things.

Finally, after everything else failed I researched my condition on the Internet and after doing so I realized that the villain that had taken my full of energy life was “STRESS”.

How and what would be the best approach to get rid of this little monster that was making my life so dull? I asked myself? Then it dawned on me some form of relaxation therapy, I tried deep breathing therapy, Yoga, T’ai Chi and Qigong and then finally Reflexology!

Why Reflexology? I had heard very little about the subject and most medical journals had not mentioned anything about it even thought it has been documented and used as an alternative form of medicine for more than 2000 years (Fingertip Medicine).

I asked my local doctor about Reflexology, he replied. “That’s some form of fancy foot massage isn’t it? “ Well I was amazed! Speechless! “Fancy foot massage” So what do you think I should do to get rid of my stress doc?” He replied, “ well I can prescribe a course of anti-depressants and anti allergens”. Wow!! Then it hit me. My entire family will turn into junkies.” No thanks, I replied.

I rushed out and bought several books on the subject and read them. After a few months of serious reading and researching on the Internet I found myself not only feeling much better but, people around me started to notice the very obvious change that was taking place at the same time. I started listening and talking to people around me. Some had similar problems, others were a little more serious.

I started advising people around me on how various problems could be made more bearable and even alleviated with the appliance of tender love and care and very little pressure, to the soles of the feet and palms of the hands. People asked me about my new interest, but who was I to tell these people, what they should do and how to apply techniques to sooth their problems, I had no authority on the subject.

Then during the winter, when I knew this stress was heading towards me, I sat down in my lovely peaceful garden wondering what on earth I was going to do with my life. Suddenly, I announced to my family that I was going to train to be a qualified Reflexologist.

I looked around the Internet for various courses but never did anything solid about it. I had to find the right course for me, one that was self-study so no added pressure. I wanted courses that help peoples’ overall health and well being, not just for weight loss. I found the School of Natural Health Sciences website and all their wonderful courses, I was straight on the net to the SNHS and enrolled in the Basic, Advanced and Higher International Diplomas in Reflexology. It gave me a completely different outlook on my life. I even found myself laughing and joking and enjoying my life again!

No matter what happened at work, I was able to do something positive, something for everyone. I had something else to concentrate on rather than the pressures of my job and other things that tried to ruin my life.

Viva!! Reflexology! Viva School of Natural Health Sciences!

So if you’re wondering whether to study one of the many SNHS courses or not, I would say go for it. That change in life is there if you want it, go out and get it but, sometimes unfortunately it can take something bad to make you see something good out there. Remember “The past is history and the future is a mystery”. I’d like to thank the School for all their support so far. Next, is Acupressure for me.

I have also opened a Reflexology and Relaxation Therapy business called no other than “Sole to Soul”. As you know I’m based in Japan and things take time here, especially when you are a foreigner. Some people are a little apprehensive about treatment from foreign therapists, so the best way I have found to build my clients is word of mouth. Treating my friends and family then word gets out and new clients appear.
