For a lot of us, hotter months are already upon us. For the rest of us, they’re right around the corner. When the sun finally hits, our summer products always need a spruce-up. Keeping things as natural and body-friendly as possible is the aim when looking for products that we’re going to be slathering over ourselves on a regular basis.

There’s been a hot spotlight in the last few years exposing the toxicity of commonplace sunscreens. The bottom line being that; it’s protecting us from harmful rays, but harming us in other ways. Evelyn Theiss, reporter for Organic Spa Magazine, investigated the subject in depth, and supplied us with a few viable brands to try. Summer products Nº2 – Love your lips!

Summer products Nº3 – Hair beauty secrets
Summer is meant to be fun. But at what cost? It shouldn’t be at the cost of your luscious locks. This next product is a personal favourite of mine, and has that all-in-one affect that I had been wanting for years. I was a little skeptical when I first bought this product. I’d tried so many other deep-conditioners and oils with very little success. The conditioners didn’t ‘deep-condition’ enough and the oils would be too heavy, giving me a “wet-stringy” or plain greasy look. I found a way I could use all natural oils such as coconut or jojoba, by simply massaging it in before washing.
However, I needed something protective that I could apply after washing. A product that would help with frizzing, provide nourishment and protection all in one. I loved the idea of coconut oil as it’s both of those things, but it just doesn’t work for hair-styling. At all. I went on a mad researching frenzy and came across Neutrogena’s Triple Moisture Silk Leave-In Cream.
There were raving reviews by people of all different hair-types, it seemed to work for everyone. So, I ordered some, and this is now my “hair beauty secret.” Nothing else is a secret really. Actually, this is not even a secret, it’s just a great additional step to hair-care that makes a noticeable difference. And it’s easy. Plus it’s not ridiculously expensive. Seriously, for a pack of three 6 ounce bottles, 20 bucks is a bargain.
The product melts effortlessly into strands, improving smoothness and manageability while diminishing fly-aways and frizz. This silky daily cream spreads evenly, absorbing quickly to instantly soften, smooth and condition extra dry, damaged strands. Three naturally derived extracts work to defy dryness. Olive penetrates to the centre of the hair strand, Meadowfoam Seed helps moisturise the core and Sweet Almond wraps the surface. What else sold me on this product?

Now, this product is not exactly all-natural, but it’s not meant for root / scalp application, so you don’t need to be freaking out about any ingredients that aren’t kosher. Hair which is already damaged, dead and old from the mid-section down to the ends is not going to care. Protecting it throughout hot summer months that include salt water, chlorine water, blazing hot sun, wind, and regular washing, really needs something that’s going to work well.
For the rest of the year, I like to use a much more refined product: Giovanii Direct Leave-In Conditioner which basically does the same thing, but is less about sun protection and more about general strengthening and nourishing. I also find it’s lighter and you need less of it. What’s cool about it?
